Overview

My Chat Faces is a Chrome extension that lets you customize AI chat websites with image backgrounds, solid color surfaces, accessible text sizing, contrast presets, bubble colors, opacity controls, and background brightness on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok. Your privacy is important to us — the extension is designed to work entirely offline with no data collection.

Data Collection

My Chat Faces does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically:

No analytics or tracking scripts are used
No data is sent to any external server
No cookies are set
No browsing history is accessed or recorded
No user content from chat pages is read or stored

Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local) to save:

Your background preference — which background is currently active (e.g. "cyber", "fantasy", "unicorns", "custom", or a solid color mode)
Custom uploaded images — if you upload your own background image, it is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local
Chat appearance settings — your selected bubble colors, text color, accessibility preset, message text size, interface text scale, opacity, brightness, and solid background color settings are stored locally so they persist between sessions

This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to any third party.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

storage — to save your background preference and appearance settings locally
Site access for chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, grok.com, and x.com/i/grok so the extension can apply your background and chat styling on those pages

Third-Party Services

My Chat Faces does not use any third-party services, APIs, or SDKs.
