Overview

My Chat Faces is a Chrome extension that lets you set custom background images on AI chat websites (ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). Your privacy is important to us — the extension is designed to work entirely offline with no data collection.

Data Collection

My Chat Faces does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically:

No analytics or tracking scripts are used
No data is sent to any external server
No cookies are set
No browsing history is accessed or recorded
No user content from chat pages is read or stored

Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local) to save:

Your background preference — which theme is currently active (e.g. "cyber", "fantasy", "unicorns", or "custom")
Custom uploaded images — if you upload your own background image, it is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local

This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to any third party.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

activeTab — to inject the background styling into the current AI chat page
storage — to save your background preference locally
Host permissions (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com) — to apply the background on these specific sites only

Third-Party Services

My Chat Faces does not use any third-party services, APIs, or SDKs.
